Washington, D. C. (March 16) – ACTION joins 84 organizations and 112 individuals in calling on G20 leaders to prioritize tuberculosis (TB) at the upcoming Summit in July where the G20 will discuss steps to address the global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The open letter, which asks G20 leaders to support a mechanism to fast-track the development of a new anti-TB treatment regimen, provides an opportunity to take collective action against the world’s only drug-resistant infection spread through the air.

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 10) – ACTION has joined other leading health organizations calling for tuberculosis (TB) to be added to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) list of high priority drug-resistant bacteria. The call comes in the wake of WHO’s "first ever list of antibiotic-resistant pathogen, as part of the efforts to address the growing global resistance to antimicrobial medicine."

Washington, D.C. (Feb. 16) – ACTION, in a bid to end one of the world’s oldest and most infectious diseases, hosted its latest media champion training for tuberculosis (TB) survivors, advocates, and researchers in Paris, France, February 1 - 4. Accommodating 10 participants from 9 countries, the training, in its 11th year, sought to deepen and broaden the advocacy group’s effort to promote investment in TB research and treatment, and ultimately, to help eliminate the disease by 2030, the goal set by the World Health Organization.

Addis Ababa (Jan. 31) – Heads of State from across Africa, today, endorsed the Addis Declaration on Immunization (ADI) also known as the Ministerial Declaration on Universal Access to Immunization, a historic and timely pledge to ensure that everyone in Africa – regardless of who they are or where they live – receives the full benefits of immunization. The endorsement was issued during the 28th African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

25 January 2017 – ACTION welcomes the signing of a licensing agreement between the Medicine Patent Pool (MPP) and the Johns Hopkins University, for an investigational tuberculosis (TB) treatment. The drug, sutezolid, holds significant promise for an effective new treatment for the world’s leading infectious killer. The signing, which took place, January 24 in Geneva, Switzerland, is the first licensing agreement for TB treatment announced by the MPP.

Drug-resistant TB cases up to 580,000. 13 October 2016 – New data released today by the World Health Organization shows that the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic is bigger than anyone had previously counted. There are now more cases, more deaths, and more drug resistance on record. This is the third year in a row that the estimate of total TB cases and deaths has been revised upward.

Further efforts to build on this investment are needed in the years ahead to put the diseases in the history books

July 19, 2016 — ACTION released a new report today that highlights the persistent need to coordinate an integrated response to the deadly duo of TB-HIV co-infections if additional progress is to be made against either disease.
